Words that sit with you. A voice that doesn't rush past.
Fred B. is a Houston-based spoken word artist whose work lives at the crossroads of manhood, memory, and meaning. Raised in California and shaped by years of study, family life, and lived experience, his poetry favors clarity over spectacle — language meant to sit with the listener rather than rush past them.
"He doesn't write to persuade. He writes to name what people already recognize but haven't yet said."
After an early start in poetry, Fred stepped away from the stage for more than a decade to build a life: marriage, fatherhood, and a career in education and leadership. When he returned to the mic, he came back with a different voice — one sharpened by reading, reflection, and the discipline of paying attention.
His work carries the moral insistence of James Baldwin, the interior honesty of Toni Morrison — poems that wrestle with masculinity without bravado, and love without illusion. He writes about what survives when the slogans fall apart.

Fred's first published work explored the power of language — how the words we speak shape the life we live. Written during his years as a pastor and community leader, this book marked the beginning of a lifelong relationship with the written and spoken word.
His lens has evolved since 2012. The conviction that words carry weight has not.
